In 2009 the Erica's Wish run began. Erica was in the midst of treatment and the race was a means to bring awareness of childhood cancer. With the funds raised from the event, the Erica's Wish Blanket Program began in 2010 at SickKids Hospital as a way to comfort children diagnosed with cancer. Upon admission to Oncology, children receive the Erica's Wish blanket. The blankets supplied are a source of comfort for children to hang onto during their tests, trials and treatments. A token of hope.

The Erica's Wish Blanket Program was named after a lovely girl named Erica who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at the age of 12. Erica was a fabulous 12 year old and a provincial gymnast with goals of the Olympics. One fateful day her femur broke during practice and Osteosarcoma was discovered. After several rounds of chemotherapy, a leg amputation and multiple trials; Erica's cancer went into remission. Erica's Wish was her dream to comfort children with cancer and to raise awareness of this horrible disease.
Each month 30 blankets are donated to the Oncology Department at SickKids Hospital. Upon admission, children receive a blanket to comfort them during their tests and treatments. Erica's story is told to give strength and comfort to other children fighting cancer just as she did. Her story and the blanket helps children and their families
